A dear young lady we have become friends with after our son was killed is to be baptized today. It is SO special, anyone giving their life to CHRIST is the ultimate decision one can make. The fact that until Bo was killed we didn't even know Shannon or her family. However, in the last 11 months we have become friends. In fact, Shannon and I walk the same spiritual journey daily in our Bible reading. It's like sitting at the table and reading together but we are miles apart, our hearts are joined together as we read the same scriptures as GOD blesses our journey.
The baptism is to be even more meaningful because Shannon has asked me to help, to actually participate in her confession of faith. D and I talk about this and cry together as we realize that GOD has again used Bo's earthly death to touch another life for HIS glory. Never in my lifetime did I think that GOD would ask me to serve HIM in such a way. GOD gets all the GLORY, GREAT things HE has done!
But today was also bittersweet, today D arrived at church in a wheelchair. Today as my husband sat in church listening to the sermon, tears streaming down his face, it was obvious to him and me that today will probably be the last time that he will be at church in his earthly body.
Today, we shared the most beautiful moment together as a husband and wife even more special than Shannons' baptism, more special than a wedding ceremony, more intense than a re-commitment ceremony, deeper than the laying on hands, today we shared communion as one. Today, Jesus joined our bodies together and in the midst of that brick building in a room full of people, there was silence, there was no one but the three of us,Jesus Christ, D and me - Jesus stood in front of us and embraced us. It was as if HE just encircled us and there was nothing else there but the three of us. As I broke that small little wafer, Jesus blessed it, D looked into my eyes we shared the body of Christ together as one. Then Jesus blessed that cup of juice, as I put it to D's lips he looks at me lovingly, took a little sip and then I took a sip. We both knew at that moment that when words fail, Christ Jesus will take care of everything, everything. Today as others around us were totally unaware Jesus had stood right there in front of us and served us his body and blood HE blessed us in that very moment with a peace that is everlasting.
Today the Eternal Flame was passed onto Shannon Booher as she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and that wonderful savior also took time to bless HIS humble servants with a peace and love that goes beyond human understanding.
GOD without man is till GOD. Man without GOD is nothing.
