The boys came Tuesday night and had a great visit with their Papaw. They laughed, jumped on the bed, tickled, joked and just had a high time with their Papaw. It was FUN !
Although the night had been difficult but not without rewards, D had sang me to sleep "ba ba ba baby ", I am always thankful when the morning awakens us with the sounds of birds singing, the sunlight streaming into the window - GOD'S promise of a new and beautiful day clearly evident in our life.
D's sister Carol, Jill, Daniel and I spent glorious hours with D, laughing, joking and just being. Daniel and D shared stories about Bo and Jeremy with great humor and fun. Then D wanted to get out of bed. We got him up, into the wheelchair and out on the deck. The first time in a week the love of my life has been outside. He was thrilled to sit on the deck his favorite place in our home. No martini, just sunshine, family, the dogs and cat. IT WAS AWESOME !!!!! SCORE FOR THE BIBB's !
It was one of those days that you were blessed to be in the presence of a dying man. GOD was here, HE touched each one of us with the grace and dignity of how beautiful that death and dying can be. HE showed us that death is truly about living and embracing those around you. Capturing the most of every moment, laughing, crying, sharing with one another. Living in the moment, being silly, being serious, whatever it takes to get through it.
One of the most beautiful points of the day was when D reached for the picture of his mother and gazed at it longingly then placed it on his chest and fell to sleep. It was another Hallmark moment, except it was written by the hand of GOD.
Ollie got to visit, he is so used to sleeping with D and I that he is lost, he paces, he falls asleep exhausted at night. Animals feel pain and hurt when their people hurt. He finally got to sit on the bed with D for a little while and then he began to feel some better.
We praised GOD and thanked HIM for the wonderful day and then GLIO came charging down the field just as we started our celebration dance in the end zone. She plowed into D fast and furious with a personal foul that would make you cry. She decided to punish him for his wonderful day with a painful headache and extreme nausea. The onset is brutal, so it takes hours to get the pain, dry heaves and nausea under control...it's 10:44 p.m. and finally after 8 hours of on again off again meds, head holding, TLC and quiet, gentleness in a dark room it seems as if GLIO has decided to leave for her victory party.
Did she really win the game? NO WAY !!! The memories we made today will last our lifetimes, the blessing of D being out of bed made his day, the ability to praise and glorify GOD even during the vomit and dry heaves just magnifies what a mighty and wonderful FATHER HE truly is - BECAUSE ---- who do you think is holding my hands when I am holding D's ?
