How Do You Measure Love ?

How do you measure love? It isn't like sticking a yardstick in the ground during a snowstorm and watching to see how many inches fell. You can't catch it is a rain gauge and measure how much fell from the sky. You can't pour it into a measuring cup and dispense portions for certain recipes. You can't decide that on today I am only going to love a person just one cup, one yard or one rain gauge full. It isn't like turning the heat on the stove and setting it just right so the food you cook turns out just perfect. How do you measure love?

You measure love by the outpouring of friends who come everyday to just say "hi", of the friends who call to check in everyday, of the friends who bring food everyday, of the cards that come in the mail, of the emails, of the text messages, of the prayers prayed over you.

You measure love by the laughter in the voices of the people in your home, you measure love by the hugs and kisses of your grandchildren, of the shushing when they want you to be quiet because their Papaw is sick. You measure love by the tears in your daughters eyes when her Daddy doesn't recognize her. You measure love by the new found friends in your husbands old friends.

You measure love by the Grace GOD gives you to ignore those that fail you when they don't or won't call. By those that make stupid inconsiderate remarks. You measure love by the unfailing strength that GOD gives you to get up and go at it again for the upteenth time.

You measure love by GOD's amazing blessings that HE gives you everyday in the beauty of the smiles and laughter that come from the wonderful man who saw something special in you that no one else did. You measure love by the look in the eyes of the man you have spent loving for 28 years when in the midst of his discomfort and pain he still has a spark of compassion, a hint of mischief, a look of desire and the gaze of love. The man who changed your life so long ago and gave you a home and a family that you only dreamed of. The kind that in truth you had prayed for and GOD gave you.

As I sit in the dim lit room watching D sleep, listening to his uneven, labored breathing and praising GOD for another day of the blessing of the man I love
I measure love in one simple solitary letter
D

This was very touching Jannie. I know you will stay strong my friend, through the help of the Lord. I'm truly moved by your posting of yours and D's journey. So many things that you have written about have brought back so many memories for me. Leasing emotions and feelings that I haven't thought of in awhile.I've cried many a time just reading them and my heart goes out to you. Love you and your family. Love Mikey
