Great American Heros

Heros come in all sizes and shapes. This is my hero - my husband - the one and only D. He is the man I dreamed of even as a little girl he was the one. I just didn't know it. When I was reading those fairy tale books and dreaming of a knight in shining armour riding on a white horse, it was a guy wearing cowboy boots, wranglers and driving a gold thunderbird - it was the same thing to me.

He came charging into my life and changed it the instant I fell in love and I fell instantly. I remember our first date, what he was wearing, what I was wearing - we laughed about it so many times because what I was wearing was pretty sad. Where we went, what we ate, what we did, the dancing, the first kiss and the hours and hours of talking. That's right, we just talked. It was magical, a storybook unfolding right before my eyes. I never ever wanted to be separated from him again, but we were many many times by circumstances, jobs, government, issues, death, live, people, etc.

We didn't get married for years, we never lived together till we were married. We grew our love for four long years before we married, not once did D every disappoint me, he may have made me angry in the moment, may have made me sad in the moment, may have made me question my motives and his in the moment, but never ever did he disappoint me or make me regret anything he did for me or my children.

He was the best provider, lover, supporter, husband, friend, jokester, Dad, enforcer, teacher a family could have. He was our HERO !!!

He never served in the military, served in the government, served in the city offices, served in a job with lives on the line but we thought he did. He served us each and every day. He walked out that door and put his life on the line for Bo, Jill and me.

Everyday he worked 10 to 12 hour days 6 days a week, he struggled to provide all our needs and most times our greeds because that's who he was. He not only took care of the three of us, but he took care of his Dad, Mom, Theo, but my parents as well. He helped friends, family and others without falter. He didn't have to serve with a badge or a uniform for us to recognize the true HERO within.

D is a man of GOD receiving his reward in HEAVEN living the good life for being a true and faithful servant !!!!

I will forever love you to heaven and back my Great American Hero !!
