Week-end Dilemma

Another week-end is fast approaching YEAH you say.  I can hear it, I can see it the excitement all around.  People are already planning what they are going to do with their families, dates, dinners, trips to the lake, lazy days.  What fun the week-ends are when you have that special person to spend it with - what a DRAG they are when you don't.

Week-ends with D were a blast !  Friday nights we either went to the cabin for a great week-end of vegging or home for martini's on the deck, a late night dip in the pool and just being together.  Saturdays were always date day !!! Oh I loved date day - D had a way of making me feel like the most beautiful woman in the entire world. Sundays were our day to worship together D loved being in the Lord's house and he was happiest there when both kids and the grandkids joined us.

The week-ends are the hardest for me and my friends who are widows.  It's when the number one really creeps in.  It's when the 24 hours a day seems like it is really longer.  It's when your feet become leaden and your motions take longer.  It's when you struggle to put on your happy face, join in and keep moving so others won't realize the pain and missing is still there.  It's when you lie to yourself that it's gotten better when it's just gotten different.  It's when you realize how much you miss having someone tell you look nice, you are beautiful and they love you more than life itself.  Not just to hear the words, but knowing that it comes from that special person.

Week-ends make some of us get overly involved in other activities to keep us from being alone, some of us become from distant from the public eye and spend more time alone, some embrace their family more.  We all reach for whatever it takes in an attempt to pass those long 24 hour days that start at 5 p.m. on Friday and end at 8 a.m. on Monday when we are forced to rejoin the living in our jobs.

It's then we wonder when are we going to begin to pick up the pieces and live a really normal life where we can become excited once again looking for to the week-end and making plans for a trip to the cabin, a date day or just a good old fashioned Thank GOD it's Friday !
