Like Father Like Son

How many times have you heard that "Like Father Like Son" or said it to someone. Over the years, we have used that so many times around our house that it becomes who Bo and D were. Cut from the same cloth, the same deep deep love of GOD, the honest love and compassion they had for their wives and family, the same witty since of humor, the same quick temper, their undying loyalty.

Where do you think a son learns his life lessons, not from absentee parents? He learns them from the man who sits beside him in the church pew on Sundays, who teaches him to drive a car, change a tire, wipe a tear when no one is suppose to see him cry.

He learns to be just like his Father when he shoots his first BB gun and accidently on purpose kills a bird and trys to figure out how Dad is going to handle telling Mom about this one.

He learns to be just like Dad when he turns green from trying Skoal for the first time because at the age of 6 he thinks he wants to be all grown up like the big guys.

He learns to be just like his Father when Dad holds him close and stills the trembles of the fears of thunder and lightening. The Father learns from the son to allow his life lessons to take hold when he shuts the door and cries where no one can see when the son leaves for boot camp.

The son learns to be just like his Father when they pray together, read the bible together and study their Heavenly Father's word together.

The Father learns tolerance from the son, new music, new jokes, new ways to do old things. They become best friends, laughing, sharing deep dark secrets of past wars and past tragedies. The Father learns from the son that young new ways may be right and it's okay to try new things. The Father learns to let go and give up control. The Father learns to pass down to his son and begin to let go. The Father begins to share the past and let go of it in order for the son to have a future together with him.

Tragedy stricks and the son is taken from the father but before he has time to even begin to learn how to cope with the separation his earthly life comes to an end and he finds himself joining his son in the arms of their HEAVENLY FATHER.

There they learn that by becoming more like each other on earth they now stand side by side with their Heavenly Father and embrace the life lessons they taught each other and live in eternity forever and ever never to be separated again.
