In the early morning hours between awake and asleep, I am laying there thanking GOD for the beautiful cool weather, my blessings and the colors of the falls of the past.
Memories flood into my mind and I am reminded of a beautiful deep eggplant corduory jumper of a long ago fall. I was probably junior high or high school, but I loved that jumper, it seemed simple, but it wasn't, it had pockets on the front, a round neckline, the armholes were faced and tacked, the hem perfectly straight. It was beautifully and wonderfully made.
You see I was one of the lucky ones, I didn't have many store bought clothes. Thank you Jesus for that !! My clothes were made by a classic seamstress. She could have won any Project Runway show, but she probably wouldn't have put up with Heidi. She would never have sent an unfinished gown down the runway. She could have sold any of her garments in any fashion house, but she chose to clothe her three daughters. We were her runway models.
We had new ballgowns, formals, wedding dresses, ruffled dresses, pants, purses and beautiful jumpers. Years later others came alone and got some of the wise woman's clothes and blessings, but her finest seamstress work had been a blessing that GOD had allowed her to gift to her daughters. For that Jaquita, JoDee and I thank our beautiful Mother.
No longer do the hands work as they once did, turning out the beautiful, perfect made clothes, but the memories are their in our minds, JoDee had a goregous multiruffled shirt and blouse - Jaquita had a beautiful wedding dress - and I had my purple jumper. There were many, many more, but these are my favorite threads of memories.
We were the best dressed, our clothes were stiched together in love, one stich at a time, it is just as GOD intended each of us - we are BEAUTIFULLY & WONDERFULLY MADE. HE knew us before HE KNIT us together in our Mother's womb.
Thank you GOD for the gift you gave my Mother that allowed her to clothe me with her hands and a few scraps of material. It is my favorite childhood memory - my purple jumper - stiched in love.
