Today was a very challenging day for me for many reasons. CD spent the day with me because he has had fever spikes off and on through the day and can't go to school. We have had a beautiful day, enjoying one another, laughing, joking and just teasing.
Whenever it is just the two of us, he always wants to go and see Papaw. I enjoy taking him to the cemetery. It is a beautiful place, a peaceful place and we have fun there. We talk about and remember the good times, we laugh and he tells me all the fun things he remembers about his Papaw. Then we sit together, holding one another and tell each other how much me love and miss Papaw. He always tells me how much he doesn't like the fact that Papaw is dead.
Today he totally changed the subject when he wanted great details about GOD, the devil, Heaven and hell. WOW, oh Wow, I really had to pray to describe how important it was for him to become part of GOD's army like his Papaw was and is and to stay away from anything and everything associated with the devil.
We had a deep discussion and he said he was proud to have Papaw, his Uncle Bo and Aunt Lori as fighters in GOD's army and that he was going to be a fighter for GOD too.
He doesn't understand a lot, but he said he sure wanted to stay away from hell, the devil and wickedness. I loved his innocence and realize that I must do more to ensure that his Christian teachings and values increase so that he "gets it". I told him he was one of GOD's children and he smiled. Then he said in all his innocence "Does Papaw get to change his clothes in Heaven? Cause if it rains and he gets wet, he will get itchy." He worries about his Papaw's comfort in Heaven because at his age he just can't quite understand how perfect it's all gonna be someday.
We spent the rest of our time walking amongst the tombstones and talking about the people buried there. Sharing the word, righting upturned flowers, singing and laughing. I love cemeteries - some of the greatest people in the world I love and some of the best memories I have made with my grandson have been created there.
