How many times have you asked someone to pray for you? How many times have you said, "I will pray for you" and then go on about your business. Do you ever think about it, do your remember or does it ever cross your mind again?
Many years ago, I learned a very valuable lesson about prayer from my wonderful friend Janet. One day she and I were talking about things in our lives and I mentioned to her that Bo was being shipped overseas to serve in the first battle in Iraq. She said, "I'll pray for your family." Then and there in the middle of the street(she lives across the street from me) she took my hands in hers and prayed for D, Jill, Bo and me. She prayed earnestly, sincerely and with all her might regardless of traffic, noise or location. She said she had learned a long time ago that when you told someone you were going to pray for them, GOD had put it on her heart to stop and pray right then. To intercede on their behalf right then. I took her and GOD's message to heart.
It has been a lesson learned, a lesson shared and a lesson appreciated. Now, I am a prayer warrior. I love to pray for others, to lift up any reason, purpose, person to my loving FATHER. Although it is a humbling feeling to be asked by someone to pray for them, because I feel so unworthy and at the same time honored when someone asks me to pray for them. Me, little ole me, who am I but a mere servant of GOD. You and I are no different than one another we can each pray for each other and we don't have to wait. In fact we don't have to wait until someone let's us know there is a need, we can just pray for the people GOD puts on our hearts.
I used to keep a wipe off board in the shower and kept my prayer list on it. I would start every morning talking to GOD about the people on my prayer list. It was the one place I could have quiet time with GOD before my day started. Now, I find that GOD and I spend more time together than I spend with anyone else. It's quality time that I am enjoying even if I don't like the circumstances that brought me to this point.
People often say, "I don't know what to pray" You don't have to pray a fancy pray, all you have to do is talk to GOD, just have a conversation with HIM. HE knows your heart, the HOLY SPIRIT will fill in the blanks. The worst thing you can do is not talk to HIM.
Today a beautiful young woman called me to inform me of some great sadness in her life. She hated to trouble me because she felt that my life had been burdened enough. I do not feel burdened, I feel humbled again that GOD lead her to my door for comfort and prayer. We prayed together on the phone and my soul was lifted up by the joy of the gifts that GOD has given to me.
Tonight I thank GOD that HE will sustain us and bring us through the fires, that HE gives me the strength to be a comfort to one in pain, that HE gives me understanding and peace about D's illness so that I might be of help to someone else.
Tonight I challenge you to no longer just tell someone you will pray for them, but to stop whatever it is you are doing when someone ask to pray, but to go to the LORD in prayer right then on their behalf. HE will not only change their life but yours as well.
Remember, "Be strong and courageous" Josh.1:6
